Tribal Worker Benefits and The Power of Five

Barrett Business Services (BBSI) launched as a temporary staffing service in 1951, and has since been at the forefront of the industry by developing and providing innovative staffing services to thousands of companies across the United States. Today Barrett is a leading human resource management company. We provide a unique blend of services and are one of the few companies in our industry to combine staffing services and professional employer services (“PEO”). This unique blend gives us a distinct advantage over our competition through our ability to offer a more comprehensive range of human resource management services including; Payroll, HR Management, Benefits Administration, Safety Services and Workers Compensation. Barrett began offering PEO services to our new and existing clients in 1990. By introducing this value added service to our customers, Barrett became one of the few companies to provide comprehensive human resource management solutions to small and medium sized businesses. Many businesses, find personnel administration requirements to be unduly complex and time consuming. Outsourcing these managerial burdens enables enterprises to devote their limited resources to their core competencies.

    TRADITIONAL PEO - Since 1990

In a PEO services arrangement, we enter into a contractual agreement with the customer becoming a co-employer of the client company’s existing workforce. As the co-employer, we assume responsibility for some or all of the human resource management responsibilities, including payroll and taxes, employee benefits, health insurance, workers’ compensation coverage, workplace safety programs, compliance with federal and state employment laws, labor and workplace regulatory requirements and related administrative responsibilities. Our clients remain responsible for day-to-day assignments, supervision and training and in most cases, recruiting. Each new hire is processed by Barrett to ensure that we are in compliance with all federal and state labor laws and regulations.

TRIBAL PEO (TWB) - Now Available!

In our Tribal Version known as Tribal Worker Benefits, our tribal clients follow a similar service arrangement with some critical changes. One of our utmost responsibilities is to protect our tribal clients sovereign immunity, therefore we have streamlined the process for them. We enter into a contractual agreement with the tribal client on a fee for service basis. There is no co-employer relationship required. Our tribal clients always remain the sole employer for their employees. This way there is not a second venue for the injured worker to sue BBSI directly for benefits and risk the tribes sovereign immunity. We will pay benefits according to your tribal law whether you have a workers' compensation ordinance or choose to default to the state limits. We will assume as much or as little of the human resource management responsibilities as we are directed by your administration including payroll and taxes, employee benefits, health insurance, workers’ compensation coverage, workplace safety programs, compliance with federal and state employment laws, labor and workplace regulatory requirements and related administrative responsibilities. Our clients remain responsible for day-to-day assignments, supervision, training, and recruiting. Each new hire may be processed by Barrett to ensure that our tribal client is in compliance with all federal and state labor laws and regulations.

Before entering into an agreement with a potential client, we conduct a thorough analysis of the current personnel policies and procedures, workers’ compensation costs, safety standards and creditworthiness. We also review their current employee benefit plan(s), if any, and determine what combination of plans would most effectively meet their objectives. After a safety inspection of the customer's facilities, we introduce our workplace safety program and recommend improvements in procedures and equipment, which the potential client must agree to implement as part of the arrangement.

The annual rebate available from our safety incentive program is an integral part of our Tribal Worker Benefits program and has proven to be a very successful tool in “making the workplace safer.”

For over 600 of our current PEO clients, we are their HR department. With the myriad of employee labor laws, these companies rely on Barrett as the experts when it comes to HR matters.

Now that BBSI's Tribal PEO (Tribal Worker Benefits) is available to Indian country, your tribe and it's businesses can have the same competitive advantages that non-tribal businesses have had for 20 years. Call today.
